TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 17) - The Florida A&M University Baseball team dropped a 13-8 decision to Delaware State in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, here Sunday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
FAMU(14-28, 3-6 MEAC) tallied eight hits, while DSU(17-18, 6-2 MEAC) pounded 16.
The Rattlers were paced by Reginald Grant and Jarryd Reid as they both finished with two hits each, while Trey DeRouen finished with three hits to lead the Hornets.
Derek Marshallsea (1-3) picked up the win for Delaware State as he gave up one hit and struck out one in one inning of play, while David Duncan (2-4) received the loss for FAMU as he gave up nine hits, three earned runs and striking out six in six and two-third innings of play.
Reginald Grant tied the game at 6-6 as he scored on a Cory Franklin single through the left side in the bottom of the sixth inning.
DSU would take a 10-6 lead as they scored two runs in the seventh and eighth inning.
The Hornets scored three runs in the top of the third inning as Scott Davis doubled to right center scoring both DeRouen and Ryan Haas. Then Davis would score on a Aaron Nardone sacrifice fly to left field, giving DSU a 13-6 lead.
FAMU would score two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Jimmie Terrell singled to left center scoring Franklin. Then Reid would score as John Scott hit into a double play for the 13-8 final.
The Rattlers will return to action on Saturday, April 22 as they will face Maryland Eastern Shore in a MEAC doubleheader in Princess Ann, Md., in a 1 p.m. start.
