JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 19) - Jacksonville State University used a pair of homers to propel them to a 5-1 win over the Florida A&M Softball team in their first game of the Jacksonville University Softball invitational, here Saturday afternoon at the JU Softball Complex.
FAMU (4-2) finished the contest with six hits, while JSU (5-4) tallied eight hits.
The Lady Rattlers had six players to finish with one hit each, while Kaycee Crow, Kristin Graham and Abbey Stepp finished with two hits each for the Lady Gamecocks.
Tiffany Harbin (1-0) picked up the win for the Lady Gamecocks as she went the distance striking out 10 and allowing one earned run in seven innings, while Jennifer Lindsey (2-1) received the loss for the Lady Rattlers as she gave up five earned runs, eight hits and striking out four in seven innings.
JSU picked up four runs in the top of the first on a Abbey Stepp grand slam over the right field wall, giving the Lady Gamecocks a 4-0 lead.
FAMU picked up their only run in the bottom of the first inning as Tenisha Dixon scored on a Taylor West double to left field, cutting JSU’s lead to 4-1.
The Lady Gamecocks scored their final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning on an Amanda Crow homer to left field for the 5-1 final.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they will face Jacksonville University in the their second game of the JU Softball Invitational.
