Gainesville, FL - The Florida A&M Volleyball dropped their third match of the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational as Florida International handed the Lady Rattlers a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 20-25), here Saturday afternoon at the O’Connell Center.
FAMU (0-3) had three Lady Rattlers to finish in double-digit kills as Yeisha Arcia finished with a double-double with team high 15 kills and 14 digs, followed by Pamela Barrera with 13 and Maria Ceccarelli with 10. Diana Gonzales dished out game high 40 assist, while FAMU had five Lady Rattlers to finish in double-digit digs with Karol Marques tallying a team high 22 digs.
FIU (1-2)had a pair of Panthers to finish with double-doubles as Lucia Castro tallied 20 kills and 12 digs, while Marija Prsa finished with 18 kills and 15 digs. Kimberly Smith added 11 kills, while Ashlee Hodgskin finished with at team high 38 assists, while four Panthers finished in double-digit digs.
In the first set, FIU jumped out a 10-5 lead, capped off by a FAMU attack error. The Lady Rattlers would go on a 17-10 run to tie the set at 22-22 on a FIU attack error.
A Lucia Castro kill would tie the set again at 23-23. FAMU would win set as they recorded a kill by Barrera and a FIU attack error for the 25-23 win.
In the second set, FAMU cut FIU’s lead to 24-21 as they scored four straight points on three straight FIU attack errors, and a Gonzales service error. The Panthers would win the set 25-21 on Castro kill.
FAMU would then drop their next two sets as FIU won the third set 25-17 and the fourth set 25-20.
The University of Florida handed the Lady Rattlers a 3-0 loss earlier in the afternoon.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Friday, Aug. 31 as they will host University of Georgia at 6:30 p.m. in the Alfred Lawson, Jr., Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.
