Lady Rattlers Stay Perfect In MEAC With 3-0 Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 4) - The Florida A&M Volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) win over North Carolina Central in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, here Sunday afternoon at the Al Lawson Center.

FAMU raises their record to 11-9 and 9-0 in MEAC play, whereas NCCU lowered their record to 7-20 and 5-3 in conference play.

The Lady Rattlers had a pair to finish in double-digit kills as Maria Ceccarelli tallied 14 kills, followed by Yeisha Arcia with 11. Karol Marquez led FAMU in digs with 17, while Diana Gonzales dished out a team high 37 assists.

NCCU also had a pair of Lady Eagles to finish in double-digit kills as Christine Anthony finished with 14 kills and 11 digs and Kalin Russell finished with 10 kills. Alice Genna led the Lady Eagles in assists with 33.

FAMU finished the match with 47 kills, while NCCU tallied 37.

In the first set, the Lady Rattlers tallied 16 of their 47 kills of the match. The Lady Rattlers jumped out a to 10-5 lead. NCCU would cut FAMU's lead to 23-20 as they used a 6-3 run, capped off by a Dennis Johnson kill.

The Lady Rattlers would win the first set 25-23 on back-to-back kills by Maria Ceccarelli and Arcia.
In the second set, both teams would finish with 15 kills each as both team went nip and tuck for the first 10 points of the set.

NCCU would tie the set at 12-12 and 13-13 on back-to-back kills by Anthony and Russell.

FAMU would then go on an 8-1 run to take a 21-14 lead, capped off by a NCCU bad set. The Lady Eagles would retaliate with a 6-3 run to cut the Lady Rattlers lead to 24-21, capped off by an Anthony kill.

FAMU would hold off NCCU for the 25-22 win.

The Lady Rattlers would open the third set with a 10-7 lead, capped off by a Pamela Barrera kill. FAMU would the put together a 10-6 run to a make the score 20-13 on an NCCU attack error.

FAMU would go on to win the set and the match as they won the third set 25-17.

The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 6 as they will travel to Tampa, Fla., to take on the University of South Florida at 7 p.m.
