DURHAM, N.C. (April 2) - The Florida A&M University Softball scored a total of 32 runs in two game as they barreled to a 21-1 and a 11-1 win over North Carolina Central, here Saturday afternoon at Thomas Brooks Park.
In game one, the Lady Rattlers bats came alive as the pounded out 16 hits, while the FAMU pitching staff held the Lady Eagles to five.
FAMU (16-18) were paced by Britany Doty as she went three-for-four from the plate scoring three runs and driving in two.
NCCU (4-23) had five players to finish with one hit each.
Jennifer Lindsey (7-8) picked up the win for the Lady Rattlers as she pitched five innings, giving up five hits and striking out eight, while Aurora Baker took the loss for the Lady Eagles as she gave up four hits and one earned run in two and two-third innings on the mound.
Francesca Singletary gave a FAMU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as she scored on a NCCU infielder’s error.
The Lady Rattlers added to their lead in the top of the second as both Ericka Garcia and Jasmine Donaldson scored on a bases load walk, giving FAMU a 3-0 lead.
FAMU would go on to score four runs n the third, six runs in the fourth and eight runs in fifth for the 21-1 final.
NCCU would score their only run of the game on an Ashanti Stroud ground out to the third scoring Whitney Boykin.
In game two, the FAMU offense would pounded out 13 hits, while NCCU punched out five.
Both Britany Doty and Tenisha Dixon led the Lady Rattlers from the plate with three hits each, while Nadia Jefferies tallied two hits for the Lady Eagles.
Whitney Robinson (10-10) got the win for FAMU as she gave up five hits, one earned run and striking out two in five innings, while Kayla McPeek took the loss for NCCU, allowing 13 hits, six earned runs and striking out two in five innings.
Singletary gave the Lady Rattlers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as she stole home.
The Lady Rattlers picked up two more runs in the top of the second Garcia scored on a Donaldson ground out to third, followed by Tera Gainer homer, giving FAMU a 3-0 lead.
In the top of fourth, FAMU would take advantage of four hits, two errors and a Gainer homer to take a 9-0 lead.
NCCU score their only run of the game on a Jefferies single scoring Cember Carmichael, cutting the Lady Rattlers lead to 9-1.
The Lady Rattlers would score two more runs in the top of the fifth for the 11-1 win.
FAMU will conclude their three-game series against North Carolina Central on Sunday, April 3 in a 12 p.m. start.
