TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Feb. 22) - Mercer University completed their sweep of the Florida A&M Baseball team as they handed the Rattlers a 19-1 defeat, here Wednesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
Mercer (5-1) finished with a game high 21 hits as four Bears finished with three hits each, while FAMU (1-3) tallied seven hits as both Reginald Grant and Justin Abney finished with two hits each for the Rattlers.
Eric Nyquist (1-0) picked up the win for Mercer as he gave up five hits, one earned run and striking out two in five innings, while Heath Blackburn received the loss for FAMU as he gave up 12 hits, seven earned runs and striking out three in four innings.
Cory Franklin scored the Rattlers only run of the game as he singled back up the middle scoring Reginald Grant, cutting the Bears lead to 7-1.
The Bears would take advantage of eight hits as they scored 12 run in the top of the fifth for the 19-1 finale.
FAMU will return to action on Saturday, February 25 as they will travel to Grambling, La., to take on Southwestern Athletic Conference member Grambling St.
