ORLANDO, Fla. (March 6) - The Florida A&M Softball dropped their fourth game in a row in the UCF Courtyard by Marriott Softball Invitational as Monmouth defeated the Lady Rattlers, 6-4 here Sunday morning at the UCF Softball Complex.
Tenisha Dixon led FAMU (9-11) from the plate as she went three-for-four from the plate, while scoring one run, while Katec Kuzma went one –for-two from the plate as she tallied a season high three RBIs for Monmouth (4-5).
Lauren Sulick (3-3) picked up the win for the Lady Hawks as she pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and striking out three.
Whitney Robinson received the loss for the Lady Rattlers, as she pitched three and one third innings allowing four hits, four earned runs and striking out two.
A Kuzma two-run homer in the top of the first gave MU a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Hawks added to their lead in the top of the second as Collen Kelly scored on a FAMU infielder’s error, making the score 3-0 in favor of MU.
MU pushed three more runs across the plate in the top of the fourth inning as Alicia Desanto scored on a Shannon Fitzgerald single, followed by a Kuzma bases loaded walk scoring Scherer. Then Chelsea Paprocki would score on a bases loaded walk, giving the Lady Hawks a 6-0 lead.
FAMU would score their first run of the game in the bottom of the first as Ashanti Shepherd scored on a Donaldson single up the middle, cutting MU’s lead to 6-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, Dixon would score on a Jennifer Lindsey double to right center. Then both Lindsey and Britany Doty would score on a Tera Gainer triple to left center, for the 6-4 final.
