No. 1 Florida Routs FAMU, 15-2

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 7) - The University of Florida would score in every inning except for the second and the eight, they handed the Florida A&M Baseball team their 11th straight loss 15-2, here Wednesday evening at McKethan Field.

FAMU (1-12) finished the contest with nine hits as both Jarryd Reid and Aaron Smith finished with two hits each for the Rattlers.

UF(12-1) finished the contest with a game high 15 hits as Tyler Thompson finished with a game high two hits, while Justin Shafer finished with a team high six RBis as he went one-for-four from the plate with three sacrifice flies in the game.

Greg Larson (2-0) got the win for the Gators as he pitch three innings of relief allowing three and striking out four in the 14 batters he faced.

David Duncan received the loss for the Rattlers as he gave up three hits, five earned runs and striking out two in three innings on the mound for FAMU.

The Rattlers got on the board early in the top of the first as Aaron Smith doubled to leftfield scoring Jarryd Reid, who singled in his at–bat, giving FAMU a 1-0 lead.

UF tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first as Nolan Fontana scored on a Justin Shafter sacrifice fly to right field.

FAMU regained the lead in the top of the second as Daniel Lee drove a 1-0 pitch to leftfield scoring Ryan Sheplak, giving the Rattlers a 2-1 lead.

Josh Tobias tied the game at 2-2 as Shaffer recorded his second sacrifice fly of the game. The Gators would then take the lead as Preston Tucker grounded out to the first baseman scoring Cody Dent, giving UF a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third inning.

Tucker added to the Gators’ lead in the bottom of the fifth as he recorded his first hit of the night as Nolan Fontana scored on Tucker’s double to centerfield. Then Tucker would score on a Johnson single to right field, giving UF a 7-2 lead.

Fontana added to the Gators’ lead as he singled to right center scoring both Tyler Thompson and Josh Tobias. Then both Dent and Fontana would score on Shaffer’s third sacrifice fly of the game, giving UF a 11-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

UF made the score 15-2 in the bottom of the seventh as Brandon Sedell tripled to centerfield scoring Vickash Ramjit. Then Sedell would score on a Connor Mitchell single back up the middle. Shaffer would get his first hit of the night as he doubled to leftfield scoring both Jeff Moyer and Tobias, for the final

UF added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as Taylor Gushue doubled down the right field line scoring Brian Johnson, who reached base via walk in his at bat. Then Tobias would hit into a 4-6-3 double play scoring Gushue, giving the Gators a 5-2 lead.

FAMU will return to action this weekend as they will open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play against Bethune-Cookman University in a three-game series with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, March 11 in a 1 p.m. start at Moore-Kittles Field both days.
