TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 8) - Norfolk State used a six-run third inning as they handed the Florida A&M University Baseball Team, 10-3 defeat in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest, here Sunday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.
NSU (19-26, 9-8 MEAC) finished the contest with a game high eight hits, while FAMU (17-35, 6-12 MEAC) finished with seven hits.
Tobi Adeyemi led the Rattlers from the plate with a team high three hits, while the Spartans had two players to finish with two hits each.
Justin Bhatti (2-6) picked up the win for NSU as he gave up seven hits, three earned runs and striking out three in six and two-third innings on the mound, while David Duncan (3-6) received the loss for FAMU as he gave up seven hits, seven earned runs and striking out two in five innings. In relief for the Rattlers, Andre Dawson pitched four innings allowing one hit and striking out one.
NSU grabbed a 10-0 lead into the seventh inning.
FAMU in the bottom of the seventh inning would score three runs as Adeyemi singled to left field scoring both Dylan West and Oscar Santalo. On a double steal, Adeyemi would steal second, while Adam Decker stole home for the 10-3 final.
The Rattlers will close out their 2011 home schedule on Tuesday, May 10 as they will host Troy University at Moore-Kittles Field in a 6 p.m. start.
