Rattlers Down Bears 31-17 on Homecoming

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( Oct. 30) - Philip Sylvester rushed for the century mark for the third straight game as he the Florida A&M University pulled out a 31-17 win over Morgan State, here Saturday afternoon at Bragg Memorial Stadium for homecoming.

MSU took the early 3-0 lead with 8:54 remaining in the first quarter as Kemar Scarlet connected on a 47-yard field goal.

Antonio “T.J.” Lawrence gave the Rattlers a 7-3 lead on a 52-yard TD reception from Martin Ukpai with 5:31 to go in the first, after the Trevor Scott made PAT.

Scott added to FAMU lead with 25-yard field goal with 13:37 to in the first half.

FAMU took a 17-3 lead into the break as Sylvester scored on a 14-run with 5:09 to in the half, after the made Scott PAT.

MSU opened the up the second half with a six-play, 73-yard drive as they score on a one-yard TD run by Jephte Cherenfant with 11:42 to go in the third quarter, cutting FAMU’s lead 17-1o, after a the Scarlett made PAT.

The Bears tied the game at 17-17 as MSU quarterback Delonte William found Chuka Okakpu in the end zone for a 19-yard TD reception with 13:04 to go in the fourth quarter, after the Scarlet made PAT.

Jerral Stewart recorded his first career TD as he score on a 37-yard interception, giving the Rattlers a 24-17 lead, after the Scott made PAT.

Sylvester the put the game away for FAMU as he scored on a 87-yard run with 3:04 to in the game, giving the Rattlers a 31-17 win, after the Scott made PAT.

Sylvester finished the game 192 yards rushing on 19 carries with a pair TDs; making him FAMU’s fourth all-time leading rushing surpassing James Rackley (1971-74) with 2,613 career yards.

Ukpai finished the game for the Rattlers with 130 yards passing as he connected on five passes in 19 attempts with a TD and rushed for 47 yards on 12 carries , finishing the game the with 177 yards total offense.

Isaac West led the team Rattler receiving Corp as he caught two passes for 48 yards, while Lawrence had one TD reception or 52 yards.

Demarius Folsom and Marquiste Ramos finished as the team’s leading tackler as they both finished with six tackles each. Folsom tallied five solos and one assisted tackle, one sack for a loss of seven yards and two tackles for a loss of eight yards.

David Brown finished the game as the Bears leading rusher as he rushed for a124 yards on 17 carries.

Delonte Williams led the MSU’s aerial attack as he completed seven passes in 22 attempts with one interception for 115 yards passing.

Dominick Bryan led the Bears defense as he garnered six tackles (4 solos, 2 asst) and 1.5 tackles for a loss of two yards. Zary Stewart was the team’s second leading tackler as he finished the game with five tackles.

Up next for the Rattlers will be the North Carolina A&T State University Aggies as they will travel to Greensboro, N.C., for a 1:30 p.m. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup at Aggie Stadium.
