Tallahassee, FL -- April 12, 2012 --
The Florida A&M Softball team dropped another close on as Troy University edged the Florida A&M Softball team, 4-2 here Thursday afternoon at the Lady Rattlers Softball Complex.
FAMU (16-27) finished the contest with four hits as four Lady Rattlers finished with one hit each, while Whitney Robinson connected on her fourth homer of the season.
Troy was led by Jaycee Affeldt as she connected on three hits in four at-bats, while Nikki Hollett finished the game with a homer on the day as the Trojans finished with a game high ten hits.
Affeldt (8-6) picked up the win for Troy as she pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one hits and striking out three, while Ashley Rainey (2) picked up her second save of the season as she gave up two three hits, two earned runs and striking out two in three innings of work.
Ashley Minter (2-7) received the loss for the FAMU as she pitched six innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking three.
Hollett put the Trojans up 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning as she belted a two-run blast to left center.
Jasmin Donaldson broke up Troy’s no-hitter in the bottom of the fourth inning as she doubled to left field .
Troy made the score 4-0 as they scored a run in the top of the sixth inning as Hollett scored on an Ortiz singe up the middle, followed by a Affeldt single to center field scoring Hayden Gann in the top of the seventh inning.
Robinson would score the Lady Rattlers only two runs of the contest as she homered to left field scoring Genesis Lopez, who reached on a fielder’s choice in her at-bats, for the 4-2 finale.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action on Saturday, April 21 as they will travel to Durham, N.C., to take on North Carolina Central in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader.
