ORLANDO, Fla. (March 5) - The Virginia Tech Hokies us a six-run second to power themselves to a 9-1 win over the Florida A&M Softball team in six innings, in their third game of the UCF Courtyard by Marriott Softball Tournament, here Saturday afternoon at the UCF Softball Complex.
FAMU (9-9) finished the game with six hits, while VT (14-4) finished with nine.
Jasmin Donaldson led the Lady Rattlers from plate as she garnered two hits in three attempts and scoring one run.
VT had three Hokies to finish with two hits each in Courtney Liddle, Betty Rose and Marra Hvozdovic.
Jasmin Harrell (4-1) picked up the win for the VT as she gave up six hits, one earned run and striking out seven in six innings of work, while Whiten Robinson (6-5) received the loss for FAMU, allowing three hits, three earned runs and striking out one in one and two-third innings.
The Lady Rattlers picked up their only run of the game as Arianna Stewart doubled to right field scoring Donaldson in the bottom of the first inning.
A Rose single to left field scoring Liddle, sparked a five run second inning for the Hokies, giving VT a 6-1 lead.
The Hokies would pick three more run in the top of the fourth inning as Dani Anderson scored on a FAMU wild pitch. Then Rose would double to left field scoring Liddle, followed by a Hvozdovic single to left field scoring Froehlich.
The Lady Rattlers will return to action as they will take on the University of Central Florida in the 6:30 p.m. nightcap in their fourth game of the UCF Courtyard by Marriott Softball Invitational
