Tallahassee, FL - The 2010-11 Florida State women’s basketball program has been placed in the top 25 in three of the nation’s top preseason publications.

The Seminoles find themselves at No. 19 according to Lindy’s and are No. 21 in both Athlon and The Sporting News.

FSU will be led this season by one of the nation’s top floor generals in senior point guard Courtney Ward. Already the school’s all-time assists leader, Ward earned Second Team All ACC Honors last season while helping guide the ’Noles to their sixth NCAA Tournament berth in as many seasons and first Elite Eight appearance.

Joining Ward on this year’s squad are veterans Christian Hunnicutt and Cierra Bravard as well as risers Alexa Deluzio, 2010 ACC All-Freshman selection Chasity Clayton, Leonor Rodriguez and Chelsea Davis.

Head coach Sue Semrau and her staff have also welcomed one of the nation’s top freshmen classes – highlighted by blue-chip prospect Natasha Howard. Joining Howard are Tay’ler Mingo, Olivia Bresnahan and Lauren Coleman.

According to the three publications, FSU will play nine teams this season that have also been placed somewhere in the top 25 on at least one of the early lists.

The Seminoles, who will begin practice on Oct. 4, officially kick off the 2010-11 campaign with an exhibition contest against Alabama-Huntsville on Oct. 24 at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The first regular-season game will then be against Alabama State on Nov. 12 at home.
