The last time we saw the Florida State football team they were hoisting the 2010 Chick-fil-A bowl champion trophy. That was two and a half months ago. Now, the team is back on the practice field, gearing up for what should be an exciting 2011 season.
FSU head football coach Jimbo Fisher says, "We have to develop our own identity. We have to go back to the basics and what we do between now and August will determine how we do in the fall and there's going to be no shortcuts. We have to remember the reasons we made the improvement from a year ago to what we did last year."
The 'Noles have been busy filling the time between last season and the start of practice. Coach Fisher put his team through '4th Quarter Drills' to make sure his guys are in top physical condition.
Fisher adds, "This out here is just as vital as some of the ball you have to play. Our kids have done a good job with that. They're ready to play."
This spring all eyes will be on red-shirt junior quarterback E.J. Manuel who is ready to take over the offense after Christian Ponder left.
Fisher says, "It's big for him because it gets you some time in there about how the personality that he'll take and our team will take and I think it will come largely from him."
Spring practice will conclude with the annual Garnet and Gold Game on April 16.
