Let's flashback to an FSU basketball team that nearly delivered a solid gold championship for FSU. In fact, this team had such a banner year, that the following season (1973) FSU was given a No. 1 preseason ranking. The return of the '72 FSU Men is this week's Every Team Has a Story.

In an era where basketball's biggest stage featured afros and short-shorts, FSU proved to be more than just a fashion statement. The 1972 Seminoles basketball team steamrolled through the competition with wins over Adolph Rupp and Kentucky along with Dean Smith and North Carolina. The Noles won the Mid-East Region Championship and then made it through the Final Four. In fact, FSU was just a few points away from beating the "unbeatable" UCLA Bruins.

"We commemorated the 1972 finals when fsu faced ucla... But it feels great to be back here," said former FSU Center Lawrence McCray.

"March madness bring back both good and bad memories," said Former FSU Guard Rowland Garrett.

That 1972 team returned to the capital city this past weekend for a 40 year anniversary... The memories overflowed.

"We were like brothers... Did everything together... Even the smart ones... The smart ones hung out with me," said ACC Legend and former FSU scoring machine Ron King.

"We were a group of guys... We just loved each other and that's what makes an all-rounded basketball team," added Garrett.

Players, assistants, and Head Coach Hugh Durham himself were honored at halftime of FSU's victory over Miami... They also received championship rings for Garnet & Gold greatness.

"We laid the foundation for what they got now." concluded King.
