TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Defending ACC Champion Florida State could play more than half of its regular season games against teams that played in the postseason in 2011. Included on the schedule are home games against NCAA Tournament participants North Carolina, Duke, NC State and Virginia as the Seminoles’ face their first ever 18-game ACC schedule as announced by the ACC.

“Playing an 18-game conference schedule will help us prepare for next season when Syracuse and Pittsburgh come into the league,” said Hamilton. “I think it’s great to go to 18 games this season; it gives us a head start on scheduling for next season and beyond. Playing an 18-game schedule this season will allow us to see how we can begin to work on our overall schedule for future seasons.”

For the first time, Florida State (along with each of the 12 teams in the ACC) will play 18 conference games – nine home and nine away – in anticipation of Pittsburgh and Syracuse becoming the 13th and 14th members of the ACC on July 1, 2013. The Seminoles begin their ACC home schedule against NCAA Tournament participant North Carolina (Jan. 12) and will also play Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Miami, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee. Florida State opens its ACC schedule with road games at Clemson (Jan. 5) and at Maryland (Jan. 9) and will also play at Georgia Tech, at Miami, at North Carolina, at NC State, at Virginia, at Virginia Tech and at Wake Forest. The 60th annual ACC Tournament is scheduled for March 14-17 at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C. where the Seminoles will defend their conference championship.

Each of Florida State’s 18 ACC games will be televised with 11 airing nationally including 10 on the ESPN family of networks and one on CBS. A total of five games will be televised on the ACC Network and two will be shown on Fox Sports South. The Seminoles’ game at North Carolina (March 3) will be televised nationally on CBS while their games against North Carolina in Tallahassee (Jan. 12) and Duke in Tallahassee (Feb. 2) will be televised on ESPN. A total of four more Seminole games (Wake Forest on Feb. 9, Miami on Feb. 13, Virginia on March 7 and NC State on March 9) will be show on either ESPN of ESPN2. The Seminoles are also scheduled for national television on ESPNU at Miami (Jan. 27), at Virginia Tech (Feb. 24) and at home against Wake Forest (Feb. 26).

“I think our fans are really going to enjoy the 18-game ACC schedule,” said Hamilton. “With two extra ACC games including one at home, our fans will have more opportunities to see more teams from the No. 1 basketball conference in the country.”

In addition to all 18 of its ACC game scheduled for television, 14 are scheduled to be carried on ESPN3. Games that are televised by CBS (one Seminole game) and ESPNU (three) will not be carried by ESPN3.

Florida State won a school record tying 12 ACC games in 2012 and won the first ACC Tournament Championship in school history with wins over Miami, Duke and North Carolina. The Seminoles were 4-1 against Duke and North Carolina and defeated all four ACC schools from the state of North Carolina (Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest) in the same season for the first time.

Florida State, which is the third-winningest program in the ACC since the start of the 2005-06 season, returns four of its five top scorers and three of its top four rebounders including All-American and pre-season ACC Player of the Year candidate Michael Snaer from its 2012 ACC Championship team.
