FSU Goes Big in 2014 Recruiting Class

Tallahassee - Derrick Kelly's future remained uncertain up until the last day. But now it's imprinted in Garnet and Gold.

"As a little boy, I've always grown up an FSU fan," Kelly said. "I just felt it in my gut that Florida State was gonna come around with that scholarship."

And they did...at about 11 p.m. the night before signing day. The East Gadsden offensive lineman had offers from Florida, Georgia, LSU and UCLA, to name a few. But Florida State was the one he was waiting on.

"That's a guy I think has the chance to play in the NFL," FSU Head Coach Jimbo Fisher said.

North Florida Christian running back Johnathan Vickers and Godby linebacker Jacob Pugh, as well as long snapper Stepehen Gabbard who is an early enrollee, will join Kelly at FSU.

And so will one of the top receivers in the country, Ermon Lane from Homestead High School.

"I think I can go on the field and compete and go for another National Championship," Lane said.

The defensive lineman Fisher raved about was Demarcus Christmas from Manatee High School.

"They told me I can play anywhere as long as I work hard," Christmas said.

In this class, not one player is under six feet tall. And of the 28 players, half are offensive and defensive linemen.

"We've hit our needs in recruiting. I think we've got a great class," Fisher said.

Big enough, perhaps, to repeat as National Champs.
