Tallahassee, FL - The Florida State men’s golf team opens its fall season Monday at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio at the Inverness Club. The Seminoles start the season after tying for eighth place at the 2012 NCAA Championships. The Seminoles won the title at the Inverness Intercollegiate in 2007.
FSU will be led this season by sophomore Daniel Berger (Jupiter, Fla.), junior Bjorn Hellgren (Vasteras, Sweden), senior Doug Letson (Tampa, Fla.) and senior Chase Seiffert (Panama City, Fla.) and adds freshman Collin Engelhardt (Orlando, Fla.) to the line-up this tournament.
The Seminoles are part of a ten-team field that includes four teams that finished last season in the Top 30 in the Golfstat rankings. Florida State leads the field at No. 16 with No. 17 Kent State, No. 21 Liberty, No. 28 North Texas. Those four teams are joined by No. 49 Northwestern, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, South Florida and host Toledo.
The Inverness Intercollegiate is a two-day tournament playing a total of 54 holes, 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Inverness Club is a 71 par, 7,255 yard course that was founded in 1903. The prestigious course has hosted four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, two U.S. Senior Opens, one U.S. Amateur and the 2009 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. Former Seminole Paul Azinger won the PGA Championship on the course in 1993.
