Tallahassee - 2014 ACC Champion Florida State, earning an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Tournament, were named a No. 8 seed and will host Fordham, South Carolina and USF in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional on May 16-18 on JoAnne Graf Field at the Seminole Softball Complex.
“I am completely excited and this is what we have been working for all season,” said Lonni Alameda. “Winning an ACC regular season and tournament title, getting a top-8 national seed are all goals this family has had since last year ended. We love that we will be able to play at home for regionals and supers and are excited to compete against some quality teams this weekend.”
The Seminoles (50-6) will take on the Fordham Rams (36-18) on Fri., May 16 at 7:00 p.m. Florida State has won its last 12 games, including the ACC Championship game on May 10 over Notre Dame. The Rams won the Atlantic 10 tournament and are in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons.
South Carolina (35-20) and USF (41-15) comprise the other regional pairing and will face off at 4:30 p.m. on May 16. South Carolina finished seventh in the SEC and lost their final game of the season to Auburn, 7-5, in the SEC Tournament. South Florida was the No. 2-seed in the AAC Tournament and fell to Louisville, 8-0, in the AAC Semifinals.
The Seminoles have not previously faced Fordham, but are 22-20 all-time against South Carolina and lead the all-time series against the USF Bulls, 38-13.
Full session passes for the entire Tallahassee Regional will go on sale Monday morning on May 12. Prices for the full session passes are $20 for adults and $15 for youth and seniors. Single-game tickets for Friday’s games will go on sale Friday morning on May 16 and will be $7 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors.
