Tallahassee, FL -- It was a guessing game for where Florida State would head to for the NCAA Tournament.
"Everybody of course has their guesses, and we all play a game where we think we're going to go here, we think we're going to go there," says junior infielder Tiffani Brown.
But heading two thousand miles to play in the regional was a shock.
"Nobody picked UCLA," Brown added. "We had a Washington, we had a ULL we had Louisville but definitely not UCLA."
"When we didn't see our name for a while we really thought we were going to go to Gainesville," says RS freshman infielder Maddi O'Brien. "When we popped up on the west coast we were all like oh we're going to California."
Getting to Los Angeles now is half the battle.
"Right now we're fighting for flights and we're still not done yet," adds head coach Lonni Alameda. "It's last minute and it's not two people, it's 30 people, that's a little bit different. We're probably going to be going out in groups now, so we'll go out in groups and everyone will have different stories on how they get there but we'll all be at UCLA and practicing all together on Thursday."
Besides fighting the distance Florida State will have to adapt to a different style of softball not commonly seen on the east coast.
O'Brien adds, "We're kind of used to the way we play on the east coast so going to see the west coast, big swingers, slappers, they probably have the whole deal. It's going to be good for us to see how they run things."
Brown adds, "I think everybody knows that that's a softball powerhouse and a dynasty with all their world championships but anyone can be beat."
