TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s basketball season won’t officially start its regular season until Nov. 12 but Seminole coaches and fans got to see an earlier-than-normal look at the 2010-11 squad Sunday at the Donald L. Tucker.

And in a 122-58 throttling of Alabama-Huntsville, there is a lot to be excited about.

Natasha Howard in particular.

FSU’s highly-touted true freshman displayed her tremendous basketball ability in the win, coming off the bench to score a game-high 24 points on 12-of-15 shooting. The Toledo, Ohio native, who was ranked by ESPN as the nation’s No. 2-ranked women’s basketball prospect before enrolling at FSU, also dished out five assists and contributed nine rebounds.

Junior forward Cierra Bravard also scored in the 20s as she posted a double-double with 23 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Second-year guard Alexa Deluzio contributed 20 points.

Sophomore guard Leonor Rodriguez scored 14 points and true freshman guard Tay’ler Mingo registered 11 of her own and notched six steals. Senior point guard Courtney Ward dished out a game-best nine assists and had six steals.

As a team, the Seminoles shot 63 percent from the field compared to just 35 percent by the Lady Chargers. FSU outrebounded Alabama-Huntsville, 50-21, and forced 37 turnovers on the defensive end.

The Seminoles scored 102 of their 122 total points in the paint and tallied 58 points off turnovers.

Florida State will next be in action on Nov. 12 when Alabama State comes to Tallahassee to open the 2010-11 season.
