Tallahassee, FL - The greatest 3-pointer shooter in Florida State women’s basketball history will put her long-range skills to the test Thursday evening in Houston.
Courtney Ward, who set the women’s basketball school record for most 3-pointers made in a career, has been selected to participate in the 23rd Annual State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships. She will compete against seven other student-athletes in the women’s 3-point shootout.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday in Hofheinz Pavilion on the University of Houston campus and will premiere at 9 p.m. ET Thursday on ESPN2.
Joining Ward in the 3-point shooting championship are Kelsey Bolte, Iowa State; Brittany Johnson, Ohio State; Tatiyiana McMorris, Marquette; Cerie Mosgrove, Massachusetts; Sam Quigley, DePaul; Jaleesa Ross, Fresno State; and Brittney Scott, University of Houston.
As a senior this past season, Ward helped lead the Seminoles to their school-record seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. She concluded her final regular season with an All-ACC Third Team selection.
Boasting a smooth long-range 3-point stroke and uncanny ability to hit timely triples, Ward rewrote the record books from behind the arc. The Montgomery, Ala. native owns the school record for most 3s made while in an FSU uniform as she finished her tenure in Tallahassee with 208 3-pointers.
She is the only Florida State women’s basketball player to ever make at least 200 3-pointers in a career.
In hitting 40.4 percent of her long-range shots this season, she currently ranks No. 28 in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage.
The ESPN broadcast team calling the event includes Dan Dakich, Jimmy Dykes, Brad Nessler and Holly Rowe. The program will re-air numerous times on ESPN networks.
