TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – For the third time in program history, the Florida State indoor volleyball team has earned a national seed in the NCAA championship as it is seeded ninth overall and will host Purdue, Colorado State and Hofstra in the Tallahassee sub-regional beginning Friday, Nov. 30.
The Seminoles (27-3) face Colonial Athletic Association opponent Hofstra in their first-round match on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET at Tully Gym. Purdue and Colorado State will play in the first match of the sub-regional on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET. The second-round match for the right to head to the West Lafayette Regional will occur on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Ticket information for the Tallahassee sub-regional will be released early in the week, with fans having the option of purchasing tournament passes for an affordable rate that will get them into both first-round matches and the second-round contest.
Florida State will be hosting in the NCAA postseason for the seventh time in school history, with the previous years being in 1983, 1988, 1989, 1993, 2009 and 2011. The Seminoles, which have won consecutive ACC championships, are making their 15th NCAA postseason appearance and have tied a school record with four consecutive NCAA Tournament bids.
The Seminoles are ranked 12th nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and are currently eighth in the latest RPI rankings. Purdue of the Big Ten is ranked 22nd in the AVCA poll and shows a No. 29 RPI, while Colorado State of the Mountain West is receiving two votes in the latest poll and is 34th in the RPI.
First-round opponent Hofstra is on a seven-match win streak that includes a CAA Tournament championship over Delaware on Nov. 18. The Pride (21-13) is making its first NCAA postseason appearance since 2006.
The NCAA Regionals take place Dec. 7-8 and are hosted by Purdue (West Lafayette, Ind.), California (Berkeley, California), Texas (Austin, Texas) and Nebraska (Omaha, Neb.). The NCAA National Semifinals are in Louisville, Ky. and occur on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 with the finals being played on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
