Tallahassee, FL - Florida State head coach Dwayne Hultquist and the Florida State administration announced that Dominic Cotrone signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis for the Seminoles. Cotrone, a native of Bradenton, Fla., is currently the No. 2 player in Florida according to USTA Florida.

“After the first or second day of my first official visit, I sat down with my parents and really talked about it,” described Cotrone. “We couldn’t tell if any other college would be better than Florida State so we basically just made a decision right there. I am ready and looking forward to playing as a team because I’m so used to playing individually all my life. I am looking forward to the team atmosphere in a tennis match.”

Cotrone is a five star recruit, according to tennisrecruiting.net, and was labeled as “simply unbeatable” by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Last season Cotrone won the FHSAA Class 1A singles champion to finish the season undefeated while not dropping a set. He won the doubles title at the Seminole County Fall Sectional and reached the finals of the Boys 18 2010 USTA National Open at the Naples Tennis Club. This year he reached the semifinals of the Boys 18 2010 Florida Open Championships at the Landings Tennis Association and the quarterfinals of the Boys 18 2010 USTA National Open at the USTA Hawaii-Pacific Section.

“Dominic has got a lot of upside,” explained Hultquist. “He has good athletic ability and has a good all-around game. I feel like he’s going to be a great player for us. Off the court he’ll be a good student and a good role model for kids. I’m really excited to have him on the team.”
