TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – The Florida State University volleyball team has made the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Seminoles begin their postseason journey in Gainesville, Fla., with a matchup against Southern Conference champion Georgia Southern in the first round on Friday, Dec. 4, at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
“We’ve seen Georgia Southern in spring ball,” head coach Chris Poole said. “They are a very well-coached, ball-control team. They are one of those smaller teams that can be a challenge for anyone, and it should be a competitive match. This is what I expected based on our results and our RPI.”
Poole leads the Seminoles to back-to-back postseasons for the first time since the 1997-98 seasons. FSU finished the regular season with a 21-10 overall mark, the first time it has recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1991. FSU’s 12-8 conference record was good enough for fourth in the ACC, which has five teams (Duke, North Carolina, Miami, Virginia Tech) in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
FSU landed in the Austin, Texas Regional. Should it defeat Georgia Southern, it would face the winner of No. 1 national seed Florida and South Carolina State on Saturday. Times have yet to be announced for the tournament field.
A full preview of FSU’s opening round matchup with Georgia Southern will be made available later next week on Seminoles.com.
