FLORIDA STATE RETURNS HOME TO PLAY HOST TO MIAMI

Florida State, one of only three ACC teams who are undefeated at home in ACC action with a perfect 6-0 record, plays host to Miami on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Seminoles game against the Hurricanes marks the second game of the season between the Sunshine State opponents with the first meeting of the season (Jan. 19, 2011) going to Florida State by a 55-53 margin. Florida State closed the game on a 17-6 run to earn its fourth consecutive win over Miami. Florida State enters its game against Miami having won eight of its last 11 games and has followed a loss with a win five times in seven tries this season – most recently with a win at Georgia Tech on Feb. 10 after falling at North Carolina on Feb. 6. The Seminoles are 3-1 in games against teams from the state of Florida this season with wins over North Florida (Nov. 12, 75-55), Florida International (Nov. 18, 89-66) and at Miami (Jan, 19, 55-53). Following Saturday’s game against Miami, the Seminoles will play their final home game of the 2010-11 season as they play host to North Carolina on March 2 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN. The Seminoles will then close out their regular season at NC State on March 6 at 6:15 p.m. Both of the Seminoles final two regular season games of the season will be televised nationally.

FLORIDA STATE WELCOMES BACK 1972 NCAA NATIONAL FINALISTS

Florida State's 1972 basketball team came up just short of a national championship against coach John Wooden and his legendary UCLA team. FSU fans will have a chance to welcome back that team today when the current Seminoles takes on Miami. All but one of the players from the team along with Hugh Durham and his coaching staff are returning for a two-day reunion that will include a team walk through Seminole fans and recognition at halftime Florida State’s game against the Hurricanes. Seminole basketball history was made by this '72 team and the incredible tournament run gained national respect for FSU. The Seminoles made the then 25-member NCAA Tournament field on the strength of a great regular season run that included a 23-5 overall record and 11-1 mark at home.

LOOK FOR FLORIDA STATE TO…

…Defeat Miami and gain a regular season sweep of the Hurricanes for the second consecutive season and for the third time in the last five years;

…Defeat Miami and win its fifth consecutive game against the Hurricanes. The Seminoles have defeated Miami in each of their last four meetings since Feb. 18, 2009;

…Defeat Miami and win its seventh ACC home game of the season to tie the school record for conference wins at home in a single season. The Seminoles also won seven ACC games during the 1992-93 season in finishing in second place in the ACC with a 12-4 record;

…Defeat Miami and win its 20th game of the season. It would mark the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Seminoles under Leonard Hamilton have won at least 20 games in a season. The Seminoles average 21.7 wins per season in the last six years;

…Defeat Miami and win its 10th ACC game of the season. It would mark the first time since Florida State joined the ACC that it has won at least 10 ACC games in three consecutive seasons.

FLORIDA STATE’S SUCCESS IN THE ACC

Consistency. It’s what every program strives for and under Leonard Hamilton it’s what the Seminoles have achieved at a very high level. Florida State is the third winningest program in the ACC in the last six years (since the start of the 2005-06 season) in total ACC regular season and ACC Tournament games. The Seminoles have won 55 games against ACC competition. Florida State played in the 2009 ACC Championship game and is one of only two teams in the ACC (they are joined by Duke) who has finished with double digit wins and in the top four of the final ACC standings in BOTH of the last two seasons. Including their nine wins in ACC play this season, the Seminoles average more than nine wins per year since the start of the 2005-06 season with four games plus the ACC Tournament still remaining on their schedule.
