FLORIDA STATE PLAYS HOST TO NORTH FLORIDA IN SEASON OPENER

Looking to play in its school-record tying third consecutive NCAA Tournament, the Florida State men’s basketball team opens its 2010-11 season as it plays host to North Florida in its season opener on Friday Nov. 12 at approximately 8:30 at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee. The game between the Seminoles and the Ospreys will mark the first ever meeting between the two teams in the sport of men’s basketball. Florida State’s game against North Florida is the first game of the 64th season of basketball at Florida State – the Seminoles reached the 1000th all-time win mark against Virginia on Feb. 17, 2010. The Seminoles have an all-time record of 1,003-745 for an all-time winning percentage of nearly 58 percent. Following Friday’s game against North Florida, the Seminoles will travel to play at UNC Greensboro on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. before returning home to play host to Gardner Webb on Tuesday Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m.

A QUICK REVIEW OF THE 2009-10 SEASON

Florida State finished the 2009-10 season with a 22-10 overall record, a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and a third place finish in the ACC standings with a 10-6 record. It marked the second consecutive season the Seminoles have won 10 games in ACC play making them the second winningest program in league play the last two seasons. It marked the second time in school history and first time since the 1992 and 1993 seasons that the Seminoles had won at least 10 ACC games in consecutive seasons. With its 22 victories in 2009-10 season the Seminoles have won 47 games in the last two years to tie the school record for wins in a two-year period. The Seminoles also won the championship of the Old Spice Classic and defeated two ranked teams.

SINGLETON ON WOODEN AWARD LIST

Florida State University junior Chris Singleton, who earned All-ACC Third Team honors and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2010, is one of the top 50 candidates for the 2011 John R. Wooden Award which is annually presented to the top player in all of college basketball. Singleton averaged a career-high 10.2 points and a career-high 7.0 rebounds to go along with 71 steals and 48 blocked shots last season as a sophomore. Singleton is one of eight players from the Atlantic Coast Conference who has been named to the list which is based on individual performances and team records from the 2010 season during which the Seminoles finished in third place in the ACC with a 10-6 conference mark and a 22-10 overall record..

SINGLETON LOOKS TO REPEAT AT ACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

All-American and Wooden Award candidate Chris Singleton enters the 2010-11 season looking to become only the second repeat winner of the ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award. He was named the top defender in the nation’s top league in 2010 in a vote by both the ACC coaches and the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. Singleton is looking to join only Sheldon Williams of Duke (2005 and 2006) as the only repeat and multiple winners of the ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award.

LOOK FOR FLORIDA STATE TO…

…Defeat North Florida and win its ninth consecutive season opener. The Seminoles are undefeated in season opening games under Leonard Hamilton;

…Defeat North Florida and win its fourth consecutive game against a team from the state of Florida. With two victories over Miami and one against FIU, Jacksonville and Stetson during the 2009-10 season, the Seminoles have won 12 consecutive home game against teams from the state of Florida.

HAMILTON LOOKING TO STAY PERFECT IN SEASON OPENERS

Seminole head coach Leonard Hamilton enters Friday’s game against North Florida looking to improve his record in season openers as Florida State’s head coach to 9-0. He has led the Seminoles to season opening victories over Savannah State (Nov. 24, 2002; 79-46), Maine (Nov. 21, 2003; 69-49), Texas Southern (Nov. 19, 2004; 71-62), Jacksonville (Nov. 19, 2005; 78-48), McNeese State (Nov. 12, 2006; 85-65), Nicholls State (Nov. 9, 2007; 81-58) and Jacksonville (Nov. 15, 2008, 59-57, Nov. 16, 2009, 87-61) in both of the last two seasons.
