Tallahassee, FL - Freshman All-American defender Kassey Kallman of the Florida State women's soccer program has been called up once again to play with the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team. Kallman had previously participated in the team’s training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California which took place from February 13th to February 20th. The U.S. U-20 Women's National Team is under the direction of Coach Dave Chesler and is currently heading to La Manga, Spain to play international competition.
“It sounds like her first camp went very well,” said head coach Mark Krikorian. “With speaking to her she felt the coaches expressed that she was in a pretty good place and that her qualities are qualities they appreciate. I think Kassey has an opportunity to be very successful, so it’s nice she has a chance to go back with them and get her first chance for international competition going into Spain. She will be playing against many of the top U-20 and U-19 teams in the world and I think it will be a great experience and opportunity for her. It’s nice when you have a 4.0 student that is also succeeding so well on the soccer field.”
Following an outstanding freshman campaign in 2010, Kallman was named to the Soccer America All-Freshman first team. She was a key component to a Seminole defense that allowed an ACC low 14 goals during the regular season. Kallman was as dependable as any player, playing a team high 2,022 minutes and starting every game during the regular season and NCAA Tournament. She also contributed to the Seminole attack registering three goals and three assists, including the game-winning goal against Central Florida. For her efforts she was named to the ACC Second Team, ACC All-Freshman first team, TopDrawerSoccer All-Rookie Team and this previous week to the ACC Academic Team.
While her freshman campaign was full of success, Krikorian knows that playing with the national team will only help Kallman continue to grow and develop as a player.
“I think it’s very beneficial,” said Krikorian. “Obviously the environment here at Florida State has prepared her for the chance to head into a national team environment and be successful. Kassey is a very hard worker and she is going to earn everything she gets because she is so hard working, but I think the chance to be in with the national team, train with the national team and against them every day in practice will certainly help her in her development.”
