Noles Return to Practice

Tallahassee, FL - For the first time since the ACC Championship game, the Florida State football team hit the gridiron on Wednesday. The Seminoles opened up their first day of team practice at the Al Dunlap Practice Complex in preparation for their January 6th BCS National Championship game against Auburn.

Head Coach Jimbo Fisher and freshman quarterback Jameis Winston returned from their trip to New York City for the Heisman Trophy on Tuesday. And now their focus is back on their work in Tallahassee. Fisher says for at least the next five practices the team will work on fundamentals.

"They've been in pretty good condition," said Fisher, who has never lost a bowl game. "They kind of did some things on their own, I think. Very proud of the way they came back. But in the beginning it's always hard."

While Fisher and Winston were making the rounds in the Big Apple, the rest of the Noles were on their own, working out on their own free will.

"You gotta get away every now and then," Fisher said. "We'd gone seven or eight straight weeks, banged and bruised. I thought it was good for their body...and their minds."

The chatter on the field was all about the National Championship, players unabashed to show their smiles for Pasadena, especially now that the award ceremonies are behind them.

"This team, let me tell ya, has been really resilient," Fisher said. "They were getting tired of it. They were kind of looking forward to getting back out here to practice."

Fisher says the team has been working on timing and tackling to strengthen the fundamentals before they delve into their Auburn gameplan. He says the team will practice the rest of the week with the exception of taking Sunday off.
