Noles Take Doubles Title At Bedford Cup

Gainesville, FL - The Seminoles left Gainesville with a trophy today as senior Andres Bucaro and sophomore Benjamin Lock won the doubles final at the Bedford Cup. The No. 4 seeded duo won five matches in the four day tournament at the Ring Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Florida.

Today’s final match was against Florida’s Mike Alford and Florent Diep. The Seminoles started with an early 2-0 lead and did not look back as they topped the No. 3 seed 8-5.

“Because of the success we had last year Andres and I are very comfortable and confident playing with each other,” said Lock. “This week our chemistry was great and we both combined and played great together at the right moments. I’m ecstatic with my first collegiate title, it means a lot to me and it is very rewarding for the hard work that I put in for the summer.”

“The key was the summer work that both Andres and I did,” continued Lock. “I know Andres worked really hard on his physical conditioning and I played lots of tournament and matches. From the summer I got really more mentally mature and professional on and off the courts. The preparations with the coaches played a huge role for both of us. Now we go back to the courts to work again and will look to take the success to the All-American tournament.”

“We served really well today and that gave us confidence to be aggressive with our formation and returning games,” said Bucaro. “Benjamin played really well at the net and was clutch today.”
