TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team came out with another solid day in doubles during the second day of competition in the Seminole Quad held at the Scott Speicher Center.

“We did a good job in doubles again today,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “The girls came right out and played even better than we did yesterday. They set the tone early, were really aggressive, finished off points pretty well, the communication is getting a lot better, and that is something we are looking forward to continuing to develop this semester. Doubles is probably going to be better than it has been the past few years, so we are excited about it.”

Florida State’s young doubles tandem of sophomore Francesca Segarelli and freshman Ruth Seaborne were once again victorious for the second straight day as they defeated Iowa’s No. 55 ranked duo Lynn Poggensee-Wei and Sonja Molner by a score of 8-4. It was quite the feat for a doubles tandem that was playing just their second match together. Florida State wasn’t finished the senior duo of Federica Suess and Katie Rybakova defeated Iowa’s Jessica Young and Jessica Cohen also by a score of 8-4.

In singles the Seminoles fell in five hard fought matches against a red hot University of Alabama team who has yet to lose a match in singles or doubles during the entire tournament.

“Alabama played great today in singles,” said Hyde. “We did fight hard, but we just didn’t play well enough. We had too many unforced errors, which is a little odd for us because we are generally a pretty steady team, but today we just didn’t do a very good job of making them work hard enough. We are certainly disappointed about how today went, but we still have day three tomorrow, so we are excited to get back out here and finish on a good note.”

The Seminoles will return to action tomorrow for the third and last day of competition starting at 10am.
