Progress for FSU Practice Fields

Tallahassee, FL - The Florida State football fields are halfway complete. The Childers Construction Company is three and a half months into the project. The deadline is August 1st.

"Everybody understands that it's an expectation that's not going to be easy to reach," said Bernie Waxman, FSU's Associate Athletics Director. "I think they've all kind of taken that challenge."

Spring practice starts next week. The Seminoles will use the intramural fields across from Doak Campbell Stadium throughout spring workouts.

But when they come back in the fall, they'll be welcomed with a 92,000 square foot indoor facility. The erection of the $15 million dollar dome is a small part of the process.

"As they start doing their work now, there's much more freehand work," Waxman said. "And that's a little more delicate and it's gonna take more time."

Fisher knows it will be worth it. The 'Noles have been burned in the past by days of inclement weather.

"It functionally will let these guys develop more," head coach Jimbo Fisher said. "Like this time of the year, a lot of those rains, the cold, the dreary. There's a constant place for these guys to develop."

There will be two outdoor fields adjacent to the indoor facility. They are expected to be seeded as early as next month.

"What's most important to me is when our coaching staff and administration walks over there they're gonna say, 'That is exactly what we were anticipating,'" Waxman said.
