TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State's Jalen Ramsey and P.J. Williams have been named to the 2014 Jim Thorpe Award Preseason Watch List.
The Jim Thorpe Award is annually given to college football's best defensive back. A season ago, former `Noles star Lamarcus Joyner was a finalist.
Ramsey is coming off a fantastic freshman season in 2013 -- a campaign that saw him become the first FSU cornerback to start as a true freshman since the great Deion Sanders. Ramsey started all 14 gams for the Seminoles at both cornerback and safety and is expected to start his sophomore year at Joyner's vacated nickel back position.
Williams is widely considered one of the nation's best cornerbacks and is already being discussed as a potential first-round NFL Draft selection next spring. The true junior was named the defensive MVP of the 2014 VIZIO BCS National Championship Game.
Williams has already been named to the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Thursday. That award goes to the country's best overall defensive player.
