TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With the team gathered in the locker room for the final time in 2012, Florida State head coach Mike Martin presented the Seminoles with their team rings after a season that included a run to the College World Series and a 24-win season in the ACC.

The Seminoles earned their 21st College World Series appearance this past season after sweeping through the NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals in Tallahassee with convincing victories over UAB, Samford (twice) and Stanford (twice).

Florida State finished 2-2 at the CWS and was one of the final four teams to hang around TD Ameritrade Park in 2012. Despite dropping their opening game to Arizona in 12 innings, the Seminoles bounced back and picked up victories over Stony Brook (12-2) and UCLA (4-1) before falling to the Wildcats a second time 10-3.

The performance for the Garnet & Gold in Omaha was their finest postseason run at the College World Series since 2000 when the Seminoles went 2-2.

After being picked to finish second in the ACC Atlantic Division, Florida State went on to tie an ACC record with 24 wins to capture its sixth straight divisional title.

The Seminoles, who return 20 players including five position starters and nine pitchers from last year’s CWS team, will open the 2013 season with a three-game series against the University of Rhode Island on Friday, February 15.
