Chula Vista, CA - The No. 4-ranked Florida State sand volleyball team wrapped up the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge on Saturday by having two pairs both finish second in their respective flights at the US Olympic Training Center.
Sophomore Jace Pardon and senior Marija Milosavljevic finished runner-up in the Gold Division tournament, while senior Mallory Kiley and sophomore Sarah Wickstrom placed second in the Silver Division.
“We had a great finish to the week,” Florida State head coach Danalee Corso said. “Jace and Marija were great and so were Mallory and Sarah. We had a lot of players really step it up as the week went on and that’s encouraging for the team moving forward. Marija was especially impressive. The heat kind of got to her one day and she had to miss a match, but she came back strong. Today, she was the best blocker at the tournament. She is new to the game and only going to get better, too.”
Milosavljevic lettered for three years as a middle blocker on the FSU indoor volleyball squad and played in a couple sand matches last season.
She and Pardon fell to Pepperdine’s Lilla Frederick and Kim Hill, 21-16, 21-14 in the Gold Division Championship.
Kiley and Wickstrom lost to the Waves’ duo of Kellie Woolever and Kelley Larsen, 22-20, 21-16, in the Silver final.
The Gold Division was made up of No. 1 and No. 2 teams, while the Silver Division featured No. 3, 4 and 5 pairs.
Sophomore Stephanie Pellitteri and freshman Nina Pellitteri also reached the Silver semifinals but lost to Woolever and Larsen, 21-12, 21-11.
The Seminoles return to action in a week when they face Gulf Coast State College on March 23 at 10 a.m. in Panama City, Fla.
