Tallahassee, FL - After hosting the Seminole Quad Tournament last week, the women’s tennis team will now participate at the 2010 USTA/ITA Regional Championships. The Seminoles will compete in Athens on the campus of the University of Georgia.
“This weekend’s event is one of the biggest tournaments of our fall season,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “The last few years we have fared quite well at this tournament, so I am very excited for our girls to lace it up in what is probably the toughest Regional event in the nation.”
In Athens, the top players from 16 schools from around the state of Florida and Georgia will compete in a 64-player singles draw along with a 32-team doubles field.
The tournament will be one of 12 regional championships being held around the country this month. The singles and doubles champions from each regional will advance to the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Championships, slated for Nov. 4-7 at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Play begins Friday at 9am with the first two rounds of singles and concludes on Monday with the singles main draw final. Doubles matches will be held on Saturday starting at 9am.
