At tip off time Monday night, all the focus will be on the court as the 16th ranked Florida State Women's team battles the 22nd ranked Miami Hurricanes. But before the action begins the focus of the game will be on giving back.
For the past three years Sue Semrau and her coaching staff have picked on game a year to coach barefoot in hopes bringing awareness to the Samaritan's Feet organization.
"I was reading an article one day about a coach up in Indiana who coached barefoot, and I was like what is this all about, and so I really looked into it and it was a really great story about a man who grew up in Nigeria, didn't have a pair of shoes until he was nine years old. When he got his first pair of shoes it was from a basketball person who had gone over, he wanted to learn the game of basketball and got a scholarship over in the United States. He went back when his father passed away, and drove by those same play grounds where he was barefoot, and he was like, what am I doing, that was me, I need to make sure I give these kids that same hope." says Head Coach Sue Semrau.
Coach Sue is asking everyone who attends the game to bring a pair of shoes to donate-
"Its just a tremendous cause and to make people aware is just fantastic." adds Semrau.
