Tallahassee, FL - The Florida State University volleyball team continues its spring schedule by heading to the competitive spring fling tournament at The Venue on UCF’s north side of campus in Orlando, Fla.

The Seminoles will compete in four matches on Saturday, which include three opponents from last season. FSU opens up with Auburn at 9 a.m. on court two, and then faces ACC rival Miami at 10 a.m. on court two as well. FSU ends the tournament with matches against Georgia Southern (noon) and FIU (2 p.m.) on court one.

The 15-team event has an admission price of $5 for a good cause – all proceeds will benefit the Central Florida Children’s Home aimed at bettering the environment for children who have been neglected or abused.

FSU is one of five 2010 NCAA postseason participants that is playing in the event. Last season, the Seminoles faced Georgia Southern in the first round of the NCAA Championship, winning 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-13). The win marked the first time in school history that FSU reached the second round of the NCAA Championship in consecutive postseason appearances. Visnja Djurdjevic tallied a match-high 16 kills and nine digs in that contest, while fellow outside hitter Jekaterina Stepanova added 12 kills and nine digs.

Miami and FSU split their regular-season matches in 2010, with the Seminoles winning in South Florida, 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-18), before Miami won a five-set thriller to end the regular season in Tallahassee, 3-2 (18-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-22, 17-19). Miami reached the NCAA Tournament but fell in the first round to Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., by a 3-2 score.

FSU and FIU met early last season at the Seminole Invitational, as FSU won 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-21).

Saturday’s tournament is the second event for the Seminoles this spring after opening up at home against Florida last weekend. FSU faces the Gators once again, this time in Gainesville, for a tournament on April 9.

The Seminoles are expecting another big season as they return 11 of their 15 student-athletes from 2010, as well as two key additions this offseason. The 2011 fall schedule will be released at a later date.
