Tallahassee, FL - Senior volleyball player Taylor Wilson has been named to the ESPN Academic All-District First Team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An interior design major, Wilson garners first-team honors for the first time in her successful four-year career. The studious defensive specialist was one of six volleyball players honored in the District III segment of the University Division, with eight separate districts honoring first, second and third-team members overall.
Wilson was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team as a sophomore in 2008, and earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team honors during her junior campaign in 2009.
Wilson, who shows 301 digs in 250 sets played for her career, is also a three-time Golden Torch Award recipient, which is given to the student-athlete in each respective sport with the top grade point average. Through the fall semester, Wilson shows a 3.95 cumulative GPA in one of FSU’s most competitive major programs.
The Clearwater, Fla., native is also a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll member, and currently is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Adding to her list of impressive academic credentials is attaining Dean’s List honors four times while also making the President’s List for a semester.
Wilson’s inclusion on the ESPN Academic All-District First Team makes her eligible for the Academic All-America® ballot. She will attempt to become the second Academic All-American in FSU volleyball history, as former player Sherry Cowling was nationally honored in 1992.
The Academic All-America Team will be chosen by a national committee and is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Nov. 22.
