RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Raleigh will host this season's Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference basketball tournament. What happens after next
March is up to the league.
Commissioner Dennis Thomas says while the league is in the final
year of a three-year agreement to hold the tournament in Raleigh,
the league is talking to other cities.
Thomas says the league is in discussions with the city, Wake
County and the RBC Center on extending the agreement.
The league, which involves 11 Division I historically black
colleges and universities, saw attendance for the tournament week
increase from more than 22 thousand in 2006 to better than 30
thousand in 2007. Those attendance figures also include
complimentary tickets distributed.
The league will add Winston-Salem State as a full-time league
member in 2009. The Rams will play a full league schedule this
winter but are still making the transition to a full Division I
