Thursday night, the Capital City lit up with a pair of high school football games... The Heavyweight matchup of the night pitted the Godby Cougars up against District foe Wakulla.
The original 7pm start at Gene Cox Stadium was bumped back to 8pm in hopes of dodging severe storms... Around 8:30, the weather cooperated long enough for the Cougars (dressed in all-black uniforms) to tangle with the Wakulla War Eagles (sporting their white with blue trim uniforms).
First quarter saw Super-6 runningback British Footman break of several jaw-dropping runs for big gains. However, the talented Wakulla defense led by Nigel Bradham, Tim Dawson, CJ Holden & Tyrell Gavin stifled the Cougar running game, forcing a British Footman fumble at mid field.
Wakulla converted a 30-yard field goal, and then just before the half completed a 60 yard touchdown pass from Cory Eddinger to Tyrell Gavin. 10-0 was your score at halftime and 10-0 became your final score as the Wakulla defense shutout the talented Cougars.
The other high school game of the night took place at Florida High School... The John Paul II Panthers edged the Munroe Bobcats 20-19.
