TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 6, 2007) – The Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) has released its men’s and women’s basketball coaches polls and Players of the Week for November 6.

FCCAA Players of the Week

Men’s Basketball – Derrick O’Neil, Florida Community College-Jacksonville
FCCJ’s Derrick O’Neil is this week’s FCCAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. O’Neil, a sophomore forward from Moreno Valley, Calif., averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 7.5 steals and 1.5 blocks during the Stars’ two games, both wins, last week. In FCCJ’s season-opening win at Coastal Georgia on November 1, O’Neil recorded his first career triple-double – 13 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals – to go along with five assists and one block. Two days later, he scored a career-high 28 points and added eight rebounds, two assists, four steals and two blocks in his team’s win over Brevard. For the week, O’Neil shot 50-percent (13-of-26) from the floor, hit his only three-point attempt and was 14-of-24 from the foul line.

Other notable performances
• Timothy Downs, Palm Beach - averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two games, including 12-of-13 from the floor and 29 points vs. Manatee
• Tony Dennison, Broward - averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games
• Miklos Szabo, Broward - averaged 15.5 points and 16.0 rebounds in two games

Women’s Basketball – Tierra McQueen, Florida Community College-Jacksonville
FCCJ’s Tierra McQueen is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. McQueen, a freshman guard from Jacksonville, Fla., turned in an impressive performance at the Lady Bengal Classic in Eunice, La., averaging 32.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals during the Lady Stars’ two games – both victories. In her college debut against San Jacinto College, McQueen scored 32 points, hit four three-pointers and was 14-of-16 from the foul line, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals. She followed that with another 32-point performance against host LSU-Eunice in which she connected on six three-pointers and was 12-of-18 from the charity stripe. For the week, McQueen shot 14-of-43 from the floor but hit 40-percent (10-of-25) from beyond the arc and was 26-of-34 (76-percent) from the foul line.

• Latoya Williams, Chipola - averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 3.0 blocks in two games
• LaQuita Curry, Seminole - averaged 26.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 5.0 steals in two games
• Kim Jones, Gulf Coast - averaged 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds in two games
• Quanisha Dixon, Santa Fe - averaged 17.0 points and shot 15-of-20 from the floor in two games
• Tiffany Hamilton, Central Florida - averaged 22.5 points and shot 17-of-24 from the floor (7-of-10 3's) in two games
