Bowden, Fisher Speculation to be Clear on Monday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ The terms of coach Bobby Bowden's new
contract will be announced at a Monday news conference.
However, school officials Wednesday would not comment on speculation that offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher will be designated as the 78-year-old Bowden's successor with some financial guarantees to keep him from taking a job elsewhere.
Assistant athletic director Rob Wilson says the news conference
was scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Fisher has never been a head coach. He came to Florida State
earlier this year from LSU to replace Bowden's son, Jeff, as
offensive coordinator. He has been rumored as a possible candidate
for several current head coaching openings.
The rumors of him succeeding Bowden took on added significance
last night when the university's president, T.K. Wetherell told
boosters in Jacksonville that he was working on a deal to keep
Fisher.
