LAWRENCEVLLLE, Ga. (AP) _ The football coach at Central Gwinnett
High School has died after a long battle with cancer.
A funeral for 51-year-old Dennis Roland is planned in Cochran, his hometown. His wife, Diane, is also planning a memorial service in Lawrenceville, where Central Gwinnett is located.
Just hours after Roland died yesterday afternoon, about 100 football players, parents and friends gathered at the high school to remember the veteran coach, who had been at the school for just one season. He also had coached at North Gwinnett High School.
Roland was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in May 2005. He contracted pneumonia in December and died at Northside Hospital-Forsyth in Cumming.
