TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 15, 2008) – Jermaine Dixon connected on a pair of free-throws with four seconds remaining to secure a 78-75 Tallahassee Community College victory over Pensacola Junior College Tuesday evening at the Eagledome giving the Eagles a hard fought first Panhandle Conference win.
TCC jumped out to a 14-3 advantage in the first four minutes only to watch the Pirates use a 10-0 run to trail by just one point, 14-13, with 10:53 to play. TCC answered with a 15-6 run to build back a double figure lead with 6:56 to play. Again, the Pirates responded with a 12-0 run to take the lead with 2:10 remaining. TCC led 34-33 at halftime.
The second half was not much different as both teams traded leads in the first six minutes of the final half. TCC assembled a 13-2 run to take a 61-46 with 10:09 to play and kept a lead that was at or near double-figures until the 3:30 mark. A tenacious Pensacola methodically fought back with a 14-7 run in the final minutes to get to within one, 76-75, with 11 seconds to play before Dixon’s free-throws secured the Eagle victory.
Four players scored in double-figures for TCC with Dixon leading the way with 20 points. Jeremy Robinson scored 13 points, Paul Guede added 12 points, and Jason Bennett added 11 points.
The Pirates Miles Taylor scored 16 points, Lasha Parchalava added 15 points, and Petras Balcocka also scored 15 points with 13 rebounds.
With the win, the Eagles downed the Pirates for the seventh straight time and avoided a 0-3 start in the Panhandle Conference for the first time in program history.
TCC travels to NJCAA No. 14 Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville, Fla. on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. before returning to the Eagledome on Tuesday, January 22 for a match-up with Gulf Coast Community College.
