After a moment of tense emotions filled Gaither Gym, the FAMU Rattlers showed cooler heads and outlasted the Delaware State Hornets Monday night, 70-68.
Tempers flared as FAMU's Joe Ballard stole the ball and went down the court for a fastbreak lay-in. Ballard was fouled hard by and a few unnecessary words were exchanged between several players under the basket. The Hornets were penalyzed with a shooting foul on Ballard plus the additional technical foul for the flagrant. The Rattlers converted on all 3 foul attempts and combined with an LC Robinson steal & bucket, came away with their 3rd victory in as many games.
Unfortunately the early match didn't have the same end result for the FAMU Lady Rattlers. The ladies are still winless in 2008 after falling to Delaware State 50-40. It's FAMU's 8th straight loss and obviously is a bitter pill for Coach Debra Clark.
"Probably the worst in my career I'd say right now. Every game we're coming up just a little bit short. We had to score and we didn't do that."
