FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Sonny Weems scored 17 points, and
Arkansas raced to a 25-point halftime lead en route to an 80-61
victory over 20th ranked Florida today.
Gary Ervin added 15 points and six assists for the Razorbacks,
who gave coach John Pelphrey a win over his mentor Billy Donovan.
Pelphrey was an assistant for Donovan for seven years at Marshall
Arkansas led 46-21 after a nearly flawless first half. The
Razorbacks shot 58 percent in the half and turned the ball over
only three times.
As if the fans weren't having enough fun, new football coach
Bobby Petrino came out on the court during a timeout in the first
half and led a rousing ``Pig Sooie'' cheer.
Florida lost all five starters from the team that won a second
straight national title last season. The Gators have overcome their
inexperience for most of the season, but they looked overwhelmed
Florida missed its first 13 attempts from 3-point range and
finished 4-of-25. Walter Hodge led the Gators with 13 points.
