Tallahassee, FL -- The ACC meetings in Amelia Island have come to a close, and for now, the talk surrounding Florida State and the Big 12, has come to a dull roar. This marks the second time in ten months that FSU had been rumored to be linked with moving to another conference..
"We're in the ACC and happy to be in the ACC."
Much different words when he said to the Orlando Sentinel this past week, "If that is what's best for Florida State, then what's what we need to do."
Would the Big 12 be a better fit for FSU? It's clear the move would center around football. Would these new teams attract more fan than what the ACC schedule holds now.
"If Texas comes to town, yes they will. Oklahoma, yes. Is Kansas State going to do that, Iowa State going to do that, Texas Tech, Baylor? I don't think it's going to be any different from other schools we've seen in the ACC that have not traveled recently," says NoleDigest.com Editor-in-Chief John Crist. "It will be a lot of fun to go to Norman, OK, a lot of fun to go to Austin, TX, but do you want to go to Manhattan, Kansas, do you want to go to Stillwater, Oklahoma, do you want to go Ames, Iowa? These are not sexy trips."
Other sports at the school have a more laid back approach to the rumors.
"I coach baseball," says Mike Martin. "Those are decisions that will be made by people above me. I'll do as I'm told."
For now the talk has passed, but it's only a matter of time until conference expansion is brought up again.
