ATLANTA (AP) _ Joe Johnson and Josh Smith were the stars as
Atlanta downed the Los Angeles Lakers 98-95.
Johnson finished with a game-high 28 points, including four free
throws in the final 23 seconds. Johnson also pressured Kobe Bryant
into a key turnover with eight seconds left.
Smith added 17 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and five
blocks while the Hawks kept Bryant and Lakers newcomer Pau Gasol
(paw gah-SAHL') in check. Rookie center Al Horford contributed 15
points and a season-best 20 rebounds to Atlanta's third straight
Bryant finished with 10 assists but scored only 11 points on
4-of-16 shooting, one night after he was held to a season-low six
points. Gasol missed nine of his 14 shots and finished with 12
points after netting 24 points and 12 rebounds in his Lakers debut
