FAMU Football Recruits Well on Short Notice

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Joe Taylor's first recruiting class as
the new Florida A&M football coach is small, but he says that's
according to plan.
Taylor signed only 12 players to scholarships today. But Taylor
says his first priority has been to get to know the players that
are already on campus.
Taylor plans to follow the blueprint that brought him early
success at his previous two coaching stops, and focus more on
evaluating and training the returning players. When he took over at
Eastern Illinois in 1978, he won a National Championship after
Eastern Illinois hadn't had a winning season in 16 years. His first
season at Hampton in 1992, Taylor took a 2-9 team, went 9-2 and won
another championship.
Taylor left Hampton to replace Rubin Carter, who was fired
shortly after the Rattlers completed its 3-8 season.
